Portsmouth outdone by Drew Cassidy and the Notre Dame Titans, 5-2

Chase Rodriguez went 1-2, sparking the Notre Dame Titans to a 5-2 victory in seven innings over Portsmouth on Tuesday at Notre Dame High School.

Drew Cassidy kept contact to a minimum, striking out eight Portsmouth batters. Cassidy allowed no earned runs, three hits and two walks over seven innings.

C. Johnson couldn’t get it done on the bump for Portsmouth , taking a loss. He lasted just six innings, walked two, struck out two, and allowed five runs.

The top of the second saw Portsmouth take an early lead, 1-0. Zach Basye got things going for Portsmouth with a single. Zach Kinney singled, scoring Ty Oliver.

The Notre Dame Titans stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fourth, scoring two runs on a two-run single by Sam Kayser.

The Notre Dame Titans increased their lead with two runs in the fifth. Hayden Baker’s single got things going, plating CJ Corns.

After pushing across one run in the top of the seventh, Portsmouth faced just a 5-2 deficit. A single by Mike Potts fueled Portsmouth’s comeback. Finally, Cassidy got Blake Wedebrook to strike out to end the game.
