The Notre Dame Titans beat St. Joseph Central (Ironton, OH) 8-5

Sam Kayser went 4-4 at the plate, helping the Notre Dame Titans to an 8-5 victory over St. Joseph Central on Tuesday at Ironton St. Joseph.

He doubled in the fourth inning, singled in the second and fifth innings, and tripled in the seventh inning.
Drew Cassidy baffled St. Joseph Central , striking out seven batters. Cassidy allowed no earned runs, four hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings.

The top of the first saw the Notre Dame Titans take an early lead, 1-0. CJ Corns got things going for the Notre Dame Titans with a single. A stolen base then moved Corns from first to second. Cassidy singled, scoring Corns.

St. Joseph Central answered the Notre Dame Titans’ top inning with one run of its own in the first. St. Joseph Central scored on an RBI single.

The Notre Dame Titans stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the second, scoring four runs on a fielder’s choice and two singles.

The Notre Dame Titans increased their lead with three runs in the fourth. A steal of home scored Kayser for the inning’s first run. That was followed up by Tyler Speas’s double, plating Corns.

Three runs in the bottom of the sixth helped St. Joseph Central close its deficit to 8-4. A two-run double and a walk fueled St. Joseph Central. But, Speas got the St. Joseph batter to strike out to end the inning.

One St. Joseph Central run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the seventh, making the score 8-5. An error set off St. Joseph Central rally. The Notre Dame Titans closed the game out when Speas got St. Joe to fly out.
