Titans escape Coal Grove with victory, 37-32

In what started out as a slow 1st quarter of high school basketball, turned into a slow night for both teams. The Titans travelled to Coal Grove on Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup that saw both teams struggle to make shots. In the end, Notre Dame was able to find itself on the winning end at the final buzzer.

♦ Trevon Turned led the way against the Hornets with a game-high 14 points.  Grant Sparks went 3-4 for 3’s and finished with 11 points.

Coach Anderson credits his defense “I thought we played our zone defense well tonight, and forced them to shoot the basketball from the outside”. The Titans held the Hornets to just 19 points in the first half.

Notre Dame lead the third quarter 28-27 before it would see a small cushion in the fourth. The Hornets would need to begin fouling late to help its chance to get back into the game, but Turner would ice the game with his free throws.

“Offensively, we tried to exploit mismatched that we saw in the paint” Anderson mentioned. “It was a total team effort on both sides of the ball”.

Offensively, the Titans found all 5 starters contributing with points. Sparks 3 point baskets were the only triples on the Notre Dame side of the ball.

Notre Dame moves to 2-0 on the season with the victory.

♦ Titans will host New Boston on Friday at 6 p.m., then play South Webster on December 14 at Notre Dame.
